Some of the greatest challenges in life often have very simple solutions. I worked my way through college as a personal trainer helping people get in shape. Soon after graduating college, I had three surgeries in one year and became addicted to prescription pain medication for the next 15 years. There are other body transformation programs that work well short-term if you exercise like an Olympian or only eat “their foods.” The problem is that neither is sustainable. Very few people can commit to intense, regular exercise, which is not a solution on its own. Physical exercise will tone your body and clear your mind but does little to help you lose weight long-term. It’s just a matter of time before an injury occurs or life gets in the way, and it becomes difficult to exercise regularly. There are 3 phases in the MacroBody program – Thin, Lean, and Healthy. The program starts with losing weight, before helping you get in shape and live a healthy life. During the first 90 days, you eat 5 MacroBody snacks plus 1 MacroBody meal with protein & vegetables each day. The 5 & 1-Thin Phase focuses on rapid weight loss, which includes detoxing your brain and body from sugar by eating the foods on the list 6x a day every 2 ½ hours. Your calorie intake should be between 1,000 to 1,300 per day, consisting of 100-125 grams of protein, 50-100 grams of carbs, and 25-75 grams of fat. This calorie deficit and macro ratio puts your body into fat-burning state, which results in rapid weight loss. This calorie and macro range will vary depending on your gender, height, and personal goals.

After the 90-day Thin Phase is complete, you transition into the second phase, which is less restrictive. Over the next 90 days, you eat 4 MacroBody snacks plus 2 MacroBody meals a day. The 4 & 2-Lean Phase focuses on losing weight at a slower but steady pace, since your calorie and macro allowance increases. Your calorie intake should be between 1,300 to 1,700 per day, consisting of 100-150 grams of protein, 75-125 grams of carbs, and 50-100 grams of fat. Eating the foods on The List 6x a day every 2 1⁄2 hours and completing some light exercise workouts is how you get lean and reach your goal weight.

After getting leaner and reaching your goal weight, you transition into the third and final phase where you get to enjoy up to 3 MacroBody snacks plus up to 3 MacroBody meals a day. The 3 & 3-Healthy Phase focuses on maintaining your goal weight, which includes some tasty, new food options on The List, as your calorie and macro allowance increases one last time. Your calorie intake should be between 1,500 to 2,300 per day, consisting of 125-150+ grams of protein, 75-125 grams of carbs, and 75-125 grams of fat. This calorie and macro range will vary depending on your level of exercise. In this final phase, healthy eating habits along with regular exercise and a self-care routine evolves into a healthy lifestyle.

Even though 1,300 calories a day sounds so little, when those calories are high in protein and low in sugar, you will not be hungry until it’s time to eat. Most of the foods people eat today are low in protein and high in calories and sugar, which is why so many people are overweight and undernourished. Consuming 1,300 “MacroBody calories” a day typically provides far more nutrition and health benefits than consuming 3,000 “regular calories” a day. MacroBody is a natural replacement method that replaces high-calorie, high-sugar, nutrient-poor foods with low-calorie, low-sugar, nutrient-rich foods. Since MacroBody limits your daily calorie intake, you must make sure the calories you consume are rich in protein. There’s a big difference between eating a 150-calorie snack with 2 grams of protein vs. a 150-calorie snack with 10 grams of protein. The body needs to be fed ample, clean protein otherwise your muscles will deteriorate, and your hunger will grow, causing you to overeat and gain body fat. If your daily calorie allowance is only 1,300, then you need to make sure your protein to calorie ratio is high and spread the foods you consume evenly throughout your waking hours. As you progress through the 3 phases of the MacroBody Program, your daily calorie limit will increase from 1,300 to 2,300 calories, allowing you to eat more of the foods and beverages you enjoy every day without gaining body fat.

People usually begin the MacroBody Program with an initial weight-loss goal in mind, which is typically a good starting point. It helps to think back to a time when you were in good physical shape, and then discuss that ideal with your MacroBody coach. After reaching your initial goal-weight, most people will reassess their situation and realize they have more weight and body fat to lose. Throughout the 9-month course, your MacroBody coach will help assess your goal-weight based on several factors such as gender, height, and level of exercise, to better determine your long-term, healthy goal-weight.

Throughout the 9-month MacroBody program, your coach will keep track of the food and lifestyle changes you make. During your weekly Zoom meetings, your MacroBody coach will ask you to upload a photo of your scale weight so you can both keep track of your weight-loss progress over time. You will have an area in your client login page where you can post photos of your weekly scale weight, photos of your body, and other relevant information. Having access to the powerful resources provided in the MacroBody program will motivate you to stick to the program long-term and be successful.

Yes, if the foods you consume maintain the same number of calories and macronutrients per snack and meal, based on the Rules per MacroBody phase, defined on the Rules page at MacroBody.com.

Yes, supplements are perfectly fine if they do not contain excess calories and macronutrients that cause you to exceed your daily calorie and macronutrient allowance. There are many supplements available on the MacroBody list under the category “Health Supplements”. Be aware that supplements such as protein powders, chia seeds, MCT oil, colostrum, and others contain calories and macronutrients.

Most people do not know how to eat for achieving their goal of being Thin, Lean, and Healthy. The MacroBody program provides you with a 9-month, essential education about nutrition, exercise, and health, which gives you valuable knowledge for life. You should eat according to the MacroBody phase you are in. During the 3-month Thin phase, you must stay within the lower calorie and macro allowance designated for the Thin phase. No physical exercise is required because your lower calorie intake will keep you in constant fat-burning state. However, on the days when you choose to exercise during the Thin phase, you may increase your calorie and macro allowance to the eating Rules that govern the Lean phase. The extra calories consumed on those days will be offset by exercise to maintain fat-burning state during the Thin phase.

When you lose a bunch of weight after years of living a sedentary lifestyle, typically your muscles are soft, and your skin is loose. Usually after the first 90-day Thin phase, most people lose a lot of weight and become motivated to get in shape. The MacroBody Lean phase allows a larger daily calorie and macro allowance to encourage regular exercise. There’s also some tasty, new food and beverage options that become available to you on The List under the Lean phase. The MacroBody daily coaching videos teach simple exercises you can do at home, plus some higher-level exercises that require going to the gym. You should start the MacroBody program from day 1 of the Thin phase, regardless of your immediate body goals. You need to start by detoxing from sugar, replacing bad eating habits with good ones, and losing body fat which is the focus of the Thin phase. To get lean and healthy, a person must learn how to harness the power of eating low-sugar, low-calorie, nutrient-dense foods spread evenly throughout the day. However, MacroBody does not condone the use of prescription diet drugs because once a person detoxes from sugar and learns how to eat, they naturally lose weight and know how to maintain their goal-weight for life. To be emotionally healthy, we need to believe that if we take an action, it will influence the result. Learned helplessness, a term coined by psychologist Martin Seligman, occurs when a person feels that since they are not in control, they might as well give up. Seligman maintains that people have a perception of helplessness when they believe that their actions will not be able to influence their outcomes. As an analogy, full-grown circus elephants are kept tethered with small ropes looped around one leg. They don’t try to break free because they have been tethered in this way since they were young and weak. After trying repeatedly to break free without success, they give up. As adult elephants, they could easily tear the whole circus tent down and move about at will, but they have learned to be helpless, so they don’t even try. 

As a comparison, over the years we accepted excessive weight gain as a normal way of life. We assumed that growing in age meant growing in body weight and size. So, we allowed ourselves to be lulled into an unhealthy lifestyle that made us fat and tired. We got used to eating dirty, fast foods that are high in sugar and low in nutrition, because they are convenient and taste good. Many of us wanted to change our lives but didn’t know how so we gave up. As time passed, new diets emerged but we didn’t think they would work for us, so we stopped trying. We didn’t believe there was an easy way out, so we learned to be helpless and gained a lot of weight in the process.

The reason you should decide to get in shape now is because there is no other time than now. Some would argue that the real reason for making the decision is for something more tangible, like your health, your fitness, or your family. Of course, those are all great reasons. However, the essential reason for deciding to get in shape now is time. We all want to look good, feel great, and enjoy our time with friends and family now. But, wanting will not change a thing until you decide that the time to do it is now. The time is now once you lose 20% of your excess weight.
